Nursing-related infections (hospital, nosocomial infections) are a major problem all around
the world and that was one of the greatest challenges of modern hospital treatment. The
aims of this study were to determine the role of the nurse in the prevention and suppression
of hospital infections, to examine the level of education of nurses for the implementation
of adequate care in sterile conditions, based on the results proposed measures that will
reduce the incidence of hospital infections to a minimum. A questionnaire of 17 questions
was designed for research purposes. The survey was attended by 50 nurses working at the
Clinic of Hematology, KC Vojvodina. The survey was conducted in the period between
1.3. and 4.4.2019. Of the 50 sisters, 18 (36 %) were male and 32 (6 4%) female. The
highest number of sisters had completed secondary school (80%), while 20 % of the
students had a high school, confirming that at the place where there are high-risk
departments for the occurrence of infection (80 %), in their work space in case of isolation,
there are only items that are essential for the patient (90 %), 40% of the nurses have
confirmed that according to their experience the workspace is readily available with
written instructions / local procedures for cleaning space, in the workspace, written
instructions / local procedures for disinfection of space / area according to the opinion of
the largest number of nurses (36 %), in their work area, contamination of the surface with
some pathogens / pathogens is proved by the sweep after cleansing / disinfection in the
proven infection (60 %), while contamination of the surface with some pathogens /
pathogens is proved by the swelling after the cleansing / disinfection without proven
infection always (40 %). Sisters do not mainly participate in the organization / design of
the space / environment cleaning process around the patient (40 %), while in the
disinfection process, the area around the patient mostly participated (50 %). The nurse
have a high level of knowledge about hospital and nursing, their prevention, but certainly
they should work on continuous education and improvement of their knowledge.
